Key Takeaways

  • Meta's Andromeda algorithm scans video frames, on-screen text, and audio transcripts multiple times, clustering ads that share roughly 60 percent similarity and depressing their reach.
  • High ad spend burns out creative assets rapidly; at Wispr Flow, a winning ad burns out after roughly $100,000 in spend, often within two to three weeks.
  • Wispr Flow maintains between 800 and 900 live ads out of 5,000 lifetime assets in its library to offset algorithmic creative fatigue.
  • Detailed briefs push creators into similar scripts and settings, while unscripted concepts like placing a keyboard on a rainy roof create distinct visual hooks.
  • Ugly, unpolished assets such as raw screen recordings routinely beat polished productions when selling technical tools to older audiences.

Meta Andromeda clusters your creatives by frame and audio

Hector Serrano discovered that the old playbook for paid social ads is dead. In 2024, an advertiser could run a single winning video for twelve months without touching it. Today, running six figures a month through Meta triggers an aggressive filtering machine called Andromeda.

Serrano explains the mechanism bluntly: “And Meta, when an ad is like 160% similar, it ends up grouping it together whether it's like the same t-shirts, you're in the same setting, you're saying the same words. Like Andromeda is super complex now. And for example, it'll scan your ad like five times over, it'll pull the transcript, it'll pull like each frame out, it'll look at the the text on screen.”

If you send five creators the same detailed brief, they film in bedrooms with ring lights and read variations of your script. Meta extracts the audio transcripts, parses every frame, identifies the background, and clusters them. The system decides your five videos are basically one video. Instead of five separate shots on goal, you get one, and Meta throttles distribution.

Scaling ad spend burns winning creatives in three weeks

The problem multiplies as your ad budget grows. Wispr Flow scaled revenue 30x with performance user-generated content, but higher spend drastically shortens an asset's lifespan.

“And especially with Andromeda now, ads reach fatigue even a lot faster cuz before then 2024 when we were running ads, I could have an ad running for 12 months,” Serrano says. “Now an ad with not only the new updates, but also how much ad spend we're running, an ad once it hits like $100,000 in ad spend, will be dead and that can be hit in like a month or 2 weeks, 3 weeks.”

To survive that velocity, you cannot treat ad production like a quarterly studio shoot. It requires raw volume and aggressive rotation. Serrano manages an inventory that sounds absurd to traditional marketers: “I think that if you look at our ad library, we might have like 5,000 lifetime ads, and maybe like 800 live currently or something like that, or 900 live currently. And it's because again, they reach fatigue, and then we have to turn them off.”

Kill briefs and embrace ugly recordings

The fix is not hiring a bigger agency to polish your storyboards. Polished assets look alike, which Andromeda punishes. Serrano stopped using formal briefs entirely. Instead, he hands creators product access and lets them invent hooks that no corporate marketing team would approve.

“And that's why I stay away from briefs,” Serrano says. “Like one example of a really good ad that we had recently was this this creator had his keyboard outside his window on a roof and it was raining and it it was like, okay, so it's like it stops you cuz it's like a very interesting visual hook.”

Different audiences also demand different textures of low fidelity. While younger feeds respond to strange visual hooks, enterprise buyers and older demographics run away from over-edited creator energy. For those buyers, Serrano does the opposite of high production:

“Like for example, our technical ads at Whispire, when you're speaking to like this older demographic who isn't really on Instagram that much or isn't maybe a bit more serious, the more boring and the uglier the ads are, the better they will perform and that can be something as simple as like a screen recording of someone using your product.”

What to Do With This

Audit your active Meta ad set tomorrow. If three or more of your top spenders share the same backdrop, hook angle, or voiceover script, Andromeda is grouping them and eating your margin. Cut your formal creator briefs immediately. Commission five new creators with one constraint: zero scripts, no ring lights, and no talking head in a bedroom.
