What we collect, and why.
The short version: we count visits so we know which summaries people read, and we keep your email address to send the newsletters you picked. We don't run ads, and we don't sell data.
Visit counts
Two tools count visits: Vercel Web Analytics and Google Analytics. They tell us which pages get opened, how people found the site (a search, a link, an email), roughly which country a visit comes from, and what kind of device it used. We look at totals, never at one person.
Vercel Web Analytics sets no cookies. Google Analytics uses cookies to tell a first visit from a return visit. For visitors in the EU, the UK, and Switzerland, we tell Google Analytics not to set those cookies.
Google's advertising features are switched off, so these counts are never used to target ads at you. To opt out of Google Analytics on every site, install Google's opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies in your browser works too.
When you sign up, we store your email address and the newsletters you picked (The Throughline, The Carry, or both) with beehiiv, the service that sends our email. beehiiv also records whether an email was opened and which links got clicked, which tells us what to write more of. We use your address to send those newsletters and nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
When you ask for an episode summary on the Try it page, we store your email address and the link you sent, send that one summary, and count which episodes and shows people ask for. We don't add you to a newsletter unless you tick the box.
Other services
Vercel hosts the site. Our fonts load from Google Fonts. When you play a clip, it streams from YouTube or from the show's own podcast host. Each of those services sees your visit, and its own privacy policy applies.
